Description

The diffusion hardware consist of a high-tech Agilent 600 MHz wide-bore superconducting magnet and three channel console with high-power wideband radio-frequency amplifiers and a set of robust, digitally driven current gradient amplifiers for accurate magnetic field gradient generation (up to 28 T/m). On the whole, the spectrometer is equipped with five different probe heads, dedicated to diffusion and uMRI. The maximum diameter of an object for uMRI experiments is 30 mm. Samples are contained in standard 5 mm NMR sample tubes. The available temperature range for diffusion experiments varies between -150°C and +150°C. The diffusion hardware is capable of performing diffusion experiments on a set of biologically relevant elements such as protons 1H, deuterons 2H, carbon 13C, and phosphorus 31P. Self-diffusion coefficients can be measured up to 10-14 m2/s which offers a unique opportunity for studying not only biological systems but also highly advanced newly synthetized materials such polymeric hybrid materials in melt or nano-composites, molecular dynamics in hollow structures or restricted geometries, and thermodynamics of a reversible chemical reactions or even guest-host interactions relevant to so-called intelligent drug delivery systems. With a dedicated setup for mice imaging, the uMRI hardware enables one to examine living organisms in vivo. The high resolution images of an unprecedented quality allows one to accurately assess the applicability and validity of new, possibly non-toxic, and efficient contrast agents.
