This year, the ECIS conference will take place from 3rd - 8th September 2017, close to the center of Madrid/Spain. It will be located at the campus Ciudad Universitaria of the Complutense University (UCM). The 86 000 currently registered students benefit from their highly competitive university. There are many famous people among its alumnis like the two winners of the Nobel Prize in Medi- cine (Ramon y Cajal in 1906, and Severo Ochoa in 1959), but also other famous poets, philosophers and historians or even Prime Ministers.
Main topics of the conference will be fundamental and applied advances of micro-and nano-en- gineered materials, interfaces, complex fluids, dispersed systems, wetting, advances in theory and instrumentation, ion specific effects, polymers and proteins, and up-conversion nanoparticles.
The laureates of the Solvay 2017 and Overbeek 2017 Prizes are going to give plenary lectures. To encourage the participation of young researchers and PhD students, the ECIS dedicates further five awards to them:
1) The Enzo Ferroni Prize goes to the best oral presentation given by a young scientist.
2) The best three oral presentations will be awarded with three Langmuir Prizes.
3) The best five posters presentations will receive an Elsevier Prize.
4) Two best posters and one best oral communication will each receive a price sponsored by the journal Polymers.
5) And last but not least three poster prizes, which include certificates and a year?s subscription to Soft Matter, are sponsored by Soft Matter and the Royal Society of Chemistry.
