At Cosun (headquartered in the Netherlands) in 2 projects the EUSMI infrastructure was used to deepen the insight of structure function relation of some of our biobased ingredients.
In a collaboration with Bayreuth University (Germany) the deposition and friction force on a hair tress (see fig) of quaternary ammonia compounds in shampoo formulations was studied by AFM. Furthermore, a new method measuring friction forces between hair tresses with FEMTOtools was initiated. A clear win win situation. With AFM a very low deposition (low build up after washing of hair tresses with various shampoo formulations) of quaternary ammonia compounds was confirmed.
In another study at Lund University (Sweden) Small and Wide angle Xray scattering and Dynamic Light Scattering were used to investigate incorporation of one of our Biobased ingredients in detergent formulations. These measurements have confirmed and revealed the structuring properties our ingredients can have in detergent formulations and have contributed to a deeper insight in the interaction of our ingredients with surfactants in detergent formulations.
EUSMI turned out to be a useful bridge to enter some very sophisticated analysis tools. The collaboration with Lund University, Bayreuth University facilitated by skillful scientists at CR was a very pleasant and fruitful journey. We are grateful for the nice collaboration with all involved scientists that crossed our path.
