Material design, development, and synthesis from scratch (SYMO)

Synthesis

Description

SyMO-Chem is an innovative research company, active in the chemical science with expertise in organic and polymer chemistry that can successfully contribute to expand the toolbox of state-of-the-art soft materials. The company covers the full chain of knowledge, from molecular design, synthesis and characterization to the development of organic and polymer (soft) materials.

To stimulate the development of the next soft matter materials generation, the design of new building blocks and materials is key. The construction of new molecules and their combination with other soft matter building blocks can lead to novel materials with new or improved properties.

In the past, and for the most part in collaboration with other researchers, SyMO-Chem has succeeded in developing nanoprobes, polymers, polymer (bio)materials, supramolecular materials, hydrogels, dendrimers, organic nanoparticles, (phospho)lipid- and peptide conjugates, dyes and copper free click chemistry among others. These soft materials might find applications in the life science (tissue engineering, controlled release, drug delivery, etc.) or materials research (hydrogels, water purification, solar cells, etc.). In addition, all the synthesized molecules can be properly characterized with a broad variety of techniques, including NMR, FT-IR, MALDI-TOF-MS, HPLC-PDA/(HR)MS, SEC and DSC.

SyMO-Chem is open to discuss the possibility to (co-)design and develop new molecular structures and its synthesis in close collaboration with EUSMI users, to eventually construct novel functional soft materials structured at different length scales and/or with tuneable dynamics for instance. The possibility to synthesize tailor-made novel molecules paves the way for EUSMI users to explore the soft matter research field that they are interested in.

You can consult the Up-scaling of laboratory synthesissection for examples of types of research and types of molecules, materials and building blocks that we can provide and that we have in the past worked with.

Note

SyMO-Chem will offer the trans-national access (TNA) within EUSMI, so the above described expertise, equipment and experience, as a service to EUSMI users. This means that the syntheses will be executed at the SyMO-Chem labs by SyMO-Chem researchers. Of course, the research and syntheses will be done watched over by and in close collaboration with you, the EUSMI user.

Possibilities for upscaling of laboratory synthesis or for execution of research by SyMO-Chem will be reviewed on request. Specific materials or upscaling activities that are requested or proposed in EUSMI projects can be provided by SyMO-Chem, when they are considered feasible by SyMO-Chem. SyMO-Chem synthesizes and provides materials for research purposes only.

Please do not hesitate to contact SyMO-Chem in case you have questions or remarks, especially when you are considering writing a proposal for EUSMI.
