The new Nanosurf Flex-ANA system is a solution for automated AFM-based nanomechanical analysis. It is designed to investigate the nanomechanical properties of materials such as cells, tissues or hydrogels by force mapping. Integrating an optical overview image for selection of the measurement areas and a 32x32x5 mm motorized sample stage to move those areas below the cantilever and in combination with the step-by-step wizard for setting up the experiment, Flex-ANA provides an intuitive to operate solution to perform a huge amount of measurements in an automated fashion in air or on liquid-immersed samples.
The workflow-based software “MyANA” guides the user through all important system calibration steps, e.g. stage calibration, cantilever calibration and definition of measurement areas and parameters.
While performing force-spectroscopy measurements, Flex-ANA analyzes the force-distance curves and extracts nanomechanical parameter such as elastic modulus, stiffness, adhesion, and topography. Simultaneously, these parameters are displayed as maps or histograms.
The correlation of the video image and the 32 mm x 32 mm x 5 mm sample stage is ensured via smart algorithms that coordinate the motion of stage and AFM to cope with large sample height variations. Thus, multiple samples can be investigated in a single experimental run. Alternatively, the properties of larger samples can be mapped over the fully accessible 32 mm x 32 mm area of the sample stage.
